Memorial day means many things. Besides barbeques and the like it also means the end of finals and school for those of us that are going to school. I plan on send the kids to the sitters and getting together with my gal pals to have a wild girls night out. I was thinking that instead of the tradional bar b que me and my friends from night school would through a party with plenty of good music, kareoke and booze. I better brush up on my singing skills and learn some song lyrics as I don’t want to make a complete ass out of myself.

Tequila and vodka are a must. After all the stress of school I will need to unwind. I hope my husband Tom won’t mind giving up his normally guy’s guy weekend to hang out with some chicks. He should thank me, some of his friends are lame and single, I’ve been thinking about trying to hook some of them up with my girl friends. It will do them some good. I think I will play match maker this holiday and try to get my good friend Elaine and Tom’s friend Dave together they would be so cute together.

So as I am planning this all out I am also picking out my song select for kareoke. I’m trying to pick songs that are easy to sing where the lyrics and too difficult. Hope I can pick a good song list so we can all have a good time and for those who are single also get a chance to get cozy.

Hey all happy mothers day. Hope you have all been good to your moms today. I called my mother today to make sure that she received a singing telegram I had sent her. It’s a great service from AudioCard.com. You go to the site, pick out some song and music you like and take it from there. It’s amazing and best of all if you want you can sing along and customize your card.

Since it was mother’s day I wanted my mother to really know how much I appreciated her. So I decide to creat a custom card and sing to her Whitney Houstons “I Would Be Nothing Without You” Yeah I know that sounds really cheezy but I was a lot of fun. So I was glad to hear that she did get it on time today and she was really happy. I think it’s so nice to try to put a person touch on gifts today. I think it really shows your mom that you are taking time to think about her and put yourself into your thank you.

Mom’s doing well thank god. She’s aging nicely and thankfully is still blessed to be with my father. My dad’s not the sentimental type but I will definately send him a singing card for father’s day. Not sure what song to pick yet but it will definately be sentimental. He won’t admit it but deep down he is a puppy and will really like a gift like that.

I found a great lyrics site today. It is Music Lyrics Now and it is pretty cool. So I was had just put my kids into bed and I was really tired. I didn’t feel like studying so I put on some music from my Itunes player and started playing Akon’s beautiful. It was a great song so I started singing along and realized I didn’t know the words to the song. So i did a Google search and ended up here.

I like this site a lot because it is really simple to use and there are at ton of songs. In fact I did a casual search for songs that I liked and found them all. What I really like is that there aren’t any annoying pop ups and stuff like that. Best of all they have these downloadable flash do hickies so you can actually put these lyrics on your blog if you wanted.

So as I was browsing I also saw another nice feature, no adds. I was surprised that a site today would provide such a nice music service but not have any advertising. At any rate recommend Music Lyrics Now to you friends. I think I will spend some of my spare time now loading these lyrics from this site onto my Ipod. That way whenever I play my favorite song I’ll be able to sing along that would be awesome.

I got up at 11:00am today and that is really late for me. I normally get up at 7:00am but I intentionally overslept because I have finals tomorrow and need to pull an all nighter. It’s now 10:30 pm and my day has only just begun. I’m turning on my Itunes player and playing some Akon music just to kill the dead silence. I really like his songs and Akon’s lyrics will be my best friend tonight.

Man this is really boring I have to memorize a bunch of archane accounting rules for my finance final tomorrow. Yeah I know why am I blogging when I have a test. Well I have to get my mind off this and get some kind of distraction I’ve been studying all day already anyway. And this stuff is really boring.

But during this break I am wondering if I made the right move to go into finance in the first place. With the bad economy and all and all the banks failing around us left and right I wonder if I will have a job after I get my degree. I’m hoping that in a couple of years when I graduate I the economy will rebound along with the finace sector of the economy. If not I am screwed. All my pain suffering and loans down the tube. I hope things will work out. So I am reciting the lyrics to “Beautiful” right now just to keep from thinking about this stressful and depressing stuff.

Well even if the banking / financial services industry doesn’t bounce back I am hoping at the very least that my degree will help open doors elsewhere. If no in finance maybe somewhere else in corporate America where I can have a viable career. Well this song is finishing and the last words of the lyrics are fading out. time to go back and study.

So I am a working mom trying to go to school at night and raise my kids at the same time. It’s so hard to do all of this during May because of finals. So today after changing Kara’s, the cutest little girl in the world, diaphers I stole some time away to memorize some course material. It was so hard to focus, with all the stress and noise and such. I had to to turn on my ipod to play some songs that would help me focus better and that’s when it hit me, I should compile a playlist of study songs that’ll help me focus.

There a lot of songs that can go into this playlist so for me I picked songs that:

1) were soft and easy to listen to, jazz, light pop, christian music

2) were mostly james taylor because he relaxes me

3) could be played over and over again without driving me nuts

So here is my list of great songs and lyrics.

1. Something In The Way She Moves
2. Long Ago And Far Away
3. You Can Close Your Eyes
4. Country Road
5. You’ve Got A Friend
6. Fire And Rain
7. Sweet Baby James
8. How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)
9. Walking Man Listen
10. Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight

Music is so helpful for me when I study. I can’t believe that some people can actually sit down for hours at a time in a library that is so quiet you can hear a pin drop. I don’t know how they do all that because if it were me I would get bored, lose my concentration and just not focus and start to day dream. So what are some of your favorite studie songs? Please submit music and lyrics in with comments, I’d like to hear what you like

Sometimes I let Brian set the rules and tempo. It’s important to change the pace and schedule sometimes so that piano music is fun and not another routine or chore. I found that sitting down with Brian to set the schedule or rewards made his song recitals more enjoyable. It’s also important in that your son or daughter will feel as if they are part of the decision making process as opposed to be told what to do.

As far as making pian fun is concerned play as many fun songs as possible. Let’s face it, kids like to do fun things and piano should be nothing short of fun. Brian for instance didn’t like playing the classics or pounding away at the keys to work on his scales or music theory. Playing p0pular or more familiar contemporary songs makes the whole process more natural and likeable. I find that when the child plays a song that they recognize they will be more apt to practice it and improve upon it. While they do this their skills improve naturally. Following this approach enabled Brian to have more fun and gain more confidence because he was able to play songs that people recognize and were impressed by.

Also involve your piano teacher in such decisions so your are both on the same page. He or she is the one with the technical / musical expertise and will be spending most of the time going over the nitty gritty of piano and music. I think of my music teacher as Brian’s partner and, knowing that becoming skilled at playing piano doesn’t happen overnight, I make sure that there is always a positive interaction between Brian and his teacher.
As Brian’s musical skills improved, I saw that he became more confident about his abilities and chose more complex songs to play and practice. I don’t expect Brian to be the next Mozart but my hope is that one day he will have fond memories of our time together and hopefully give him the ability to express himself through the music lyrics and songs from his earlier days playing piano.

I’ve been trying to get my young son Brian to play piano and learn some new songs and music. Playing piano is a great and subtle skill and one that takes many children years to master. It is both hard work and a labor of love to broaden my Brian’s horizons. It took a lot of careful thought to select the right piano instructor and get Brian to actually play. He is 9 and would rather play with his nintendo DS. I hope that Brian will be a good pianist some day soon I think he is talented. At the very least I hope he has fun. Here are some of my experiences and tricks I learned to get Brian to play and practice.

Praise your little maestro often. Children are very sensitive and Brian is no excepton. I would often listen to him play and look for genuine opportunities to compliment him. I felt it was important to praise my son often so that he could build up his confidence and enthusiasm for piano and become more involved with his music. Brian is shy though so I made sure not to compliment him in front of others because he would get embarrassed.

Another element that was important to Brian’s development was sitting down and listening to him play often. I made sure I was there as his mother and not his teacher, smiling, listening and enjoying his music and not handing out criticism or lessons. This helped Brian enjoy his time playing and relax.

I also gave Brian stars and other incentives for accomplishing certain skills while playing songs and his great music. Stars work great with some young children and Brian was very responsive to them. You can set up your star incentives anyway you want. I gave Brian a sticker for every time he sat down at the piano, every time he played a song and every time he played his notes perfectly for his song.

I was watching a hilarious re-run of Ally McBeal and in it John Caig is talking to Ally McBeal about her theme song. Ally replies that she doesn’t have a theme song and John then procedes to explain to her why a personal theme song is important and that she needs to get one soon.

So that started to get me thinking about my theme song. What should it be? Should it be a happy song? Upbeat song? Should it reflect my personality or my idealisation of my self? It’s not easy to pick a theme song for oneself.

So right now here are my list of candidates

1) Rocky Theme - I was always in love with Rocky Balboa

2) Moving On Up

3) Girls Wanna Have Fun - Cyndi Lauper

4) Material Girl - Madonna

5) Yesterday - Beatles

So right now I am leaning towards (1) the rocky theme. I figure this would be a good choice because it is upbeat and kicks ass or has a let’s kick some ass feeling to it. As this song plays in my head I can imagine myself running down the streets of my town’s city hall with a bunch of kids following me fighting the system. Rah rah yeah that’s a great way to wake up every morning.

Plus I really like this song. I can play it while driving to work or while jogging or working out at the gym. Plus it’s a classic and not lame at all.

An I like the lyrics of the Rocky song “Getting Stronger…Getting Stronger…” That’s where I’d like to go and be, get stronger, mentally, physically emotionally. Yes improve myself as a person.

I was reading an article about Lady Gaga today and was impressed that she wrote her own songs. Her real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta and she started out her career writing songs for Fergie, Britney Spears and Pussy Cat dolls. If you listen to the lyrics of one of her hottest new songs “Just Dance” her talent is apparent. I was really impressed with Stefani’s work because it’s a pretty cool blend of dance and pop. After reading her biography you learn that she isn’t your typical pop star.

Stephani grew up realtively well to do and always had an interest in music and song writing. Her father is an entrepenuer and she grew up in Yonkers New York. She attend a prestigious all girls catholic school, Sacred Heart and won early admittance to NYU’s Tisch School of the Performing Arts where she honed her musical and sing abilities.

Though she was well off she decided to drop out and persue her passions. She worked as a waitress and burlesque dancer and refused to take help from her parents. She honed her act in the Lower East Side music scene at various bars and clubs.

Her big break came while working with Akon on one of his tracks. The story goes that they were in the sound stage together when he heard her voice. He was immediately impressed and saw her potential and signed her onto his label.

Lady Gaga got where she is because she took an unconvential path and devoted all her time to her passion and her music. She could have played it safe and stayed in school to finish her music training. But whe didn’t and followed her calling to sing and write songs. That instinct has lead to such unique lyrics like “Poker Face” and “Just Dance”

So a couple of days ago I was watching a Lady Gaga video for “Pokerface” and the song got stuck in my head. It’s really annoying now Lady Gaga and her music are starting to annoy me.

“P-p-p-poker face, p-p-poker face (mum mum mum mah)” damn this keeps playing over and over in my head, when I go to sleep, when I wake up, when I go to work. Yeah I am glad I am working that helps a lot. So this song will gradually go away and not be in my mind and now I am trying my best not to watch it again or bam, everything will come right back.

So some of the things I do when I get a song stuck in my head is to try different techniques. I might just actually try to listen to the whole song and maybe focus on a different part of the lyrics, because usually it’s just a part of the song that is annoying. Maybe i’ll do some cross words or soduku, some kind of mental game. If that does work i’ll try to mentally sing lower. If all else fails I’ll got get some excercise or watch a long movie.

Pokerface is really annoying “P-p-p-poker face, p-p-poker face (mum mum mum mah)” that is so catchy what can one do.

So if this music doesn’t get out of my head soon i think I will go nuts. It’s retarded by i may need to get prozac to battle away these song lyrics.
